Hardy Annuals

Join the fun and discover the wonder of growing dahlias from seed. Each plant is a joyous surprise when its first bloom opens!
Growing dahlia from seed gives a new genetic combination, so each one is entirely unique (unlike growing dahlias from tubers, where each tuber is a clone of the 'mother').
We've grown thousands of dahlias from seed at the Flora Flower Farm over the last 5 years, and our very best results have been from seed sourced from Dahlia grower extraordinaire Sam (down at Buds & Blooms Flower Farm in the Hawke's Bay). Sam's packets of seeds were so generous this year, and the germination so good, that I have ended up with way too many seedlings for myself. I estimate that last year I kept about 30% of the seedlings grown from Sam's seed for further evaluation this year. So with 6 plants, you have a very good chance that at least one of them will be amazing!
Dahlias are easy care plants. We recommend pinching the centre out of them when they are about 20cm tall, and providing them with some support.
A set of 6 seedlings, grown in trays and removed and securely wrapped for sending via courier.
We'll be donating $20 from each 6-pack to Gumboots Day.
